Immediate Dentures

  • Aesthetic replacement is immediate
  • Can duplicate the shape, colour and arrangement of the natural teeth while some are still present in the mouth
  • An immediate denture can assist with possible relearning of speech patterns
  • Helps maintain masticatory function

  • Cost - A soft temporary reline material will be utilised for re-fitting the denture when it becomes loose during the healing process
  • Often will need to be remodelled but once stabilised it can act as a spare
  • Not always possible to envisage final tooth set-up
  • Initially, an immediate denture does not always fit as accurately as a conventional denture, which is made after the tissues have healed for 1-2 months following extractions. If a conventional denture is not made, then a reline is required
